Part of the I series range of lenses from Sigma’s Contemporary line-up, this full-frame standard prime for mirrorless cameras delivers outstanding optical performance in a compact body. The lens has an all-metal build, including an all-metal hood, metal aperture ring, metal focus ring and even a magnetic metal lens cap. Despite this it weighs in at only 350g and is only 7cm in length, making it a remarkably portable option for photographers needing to travel light.
Thanks to Sigma’s cutting-edge stepping motor technology, the lens focuses very quickly and quietly, and its bright F2 aperture ensures fast shutter speeds in low light as well as a shallow depth-of-field if required. The versatile 50mm focal length makes the lens ideal for street, landscape, portrait, wedding, event and travel photography.
As with the other optics in the I series range of premium compact primes, the 50mm F2 has an all-metal build comprising precision-cut aluminium parts. Its robust construction and ultra-portable design make it perfect for a wide range of photographic applications. The lens has a rubber seal around the mount to stop dust and moisture from getting in.
A manual aperture ring allows photographers to change aperture on the lens or, using the Auto setting, on the camera if preferred. The movement of the ring is exceptionally smooth and the clicks well define, ensuring precise operation.
The tactile knurled metal finish used for the lens hood, focus ring and aperture ring make handling the lens and changing settings extremely intuitive. Included with the lens is a magnetic metal lens cap in addition to the regular plastic cap, which further improves ease of use.
Despite being small and light, the 50mm F2 does not compromise on optical quality. Its advanced optical design includes 11 elements in 9 groups, of which 3 are aspherical elements and 1 is an SLD element. These help keep the lens compact while greatly reducing the appearance of chromatic aberration around areas of high contrast.
A Super Multi-Layer coating on the surface of the elements helps keep flare and ghosting to a minimum.The 50mm focal length is excellent for waist-up portraits, as it gives the most flattering perspective on the face for this composition. The optics are extremely sharp even at F2, ensuring exceptional subject detail.
